Experience The Tranquility Of The Variante Espiritual Camino De Santiago.

If you are researching the Camino de Santiago, I’m sure you’re already aware that there are many different routes to Santiago de Compostela and each route offers a different type of experience.

I have extensive experience of walking along both the French and Portuguese Way, so I decided to research and walk the Variante Espiritual Camino de Santiago with a view to offering a beginner level guided journey along this coastal route.

I was not disappointed by the glorious landscape of the Galician coastline of northwestern Spain!

I began my Camino in the coastal town of A Guarda on the Spanish side of the Camino de Santiago.

Over the next eight days, I walked along natural paths of the rugged coastline of Spain, enjoying the vistas of mountains and pine forests with evenings spent in the fishing villages of Oia and  Baiona until I reached the coastal town of Vigo with stunning views to the Isle of Cies.

From Vigo, I picked up the traditional Portuguese inland route, walked through magical forests and woodlands and stayed at the towns of Redondela, Pontevedra, Caldas de Reis and Padron.

After Padron, I began my final day’s journey into Santiago de Compostela, reaching the promise land at the Cathedral of Santiago.

How would I describe the Variante Espiritual route! The most tranquil route by far! The terrain is relatively flat and easy to walk along and the route is well-sign posted (apart from the odd stretch without signs). The weather was pleasant with cool breezes along the coast (perfect in the summer months) and I experienced balmy days on the inland stretch of the road.

Every town along the way had a plentiful supply of restaurants and cafes and I was always able to pick up a Camino stamp along the way.

So, after researching and experiencing this Camino, we will now be offering our first Wild Camino Guided Journey along this route on the 1st to the 10th September 2021. You can check out the full details at Wild Camino Variante Espiritual Guided Journey.
