Enjoy A Sizzling Summer On The Camino De Santiago

Here comes the sun!

The summer months of late June, July and August are peak season on the Camino.

The sun is shining, sardines sizzle on the grills of every restaurant, Sangria is the drink of the day, and the Caminos are buzzing with happy Pilgrims to wish a Buen Camino!

I have walked both the French and Portuguese Way during the summer and found these months to be the most sociable time of the year on the Camino. The Camino atmosphere is amazing and I met so many wonderful people along the way.

If you decide to walk during the summer months, you’ll find that the temperatures on the inland routes such as the Camino Frances and Portuguese Central Camino tend to be high while walking conditions on the Portuguese Coastal and Norte Camino are perfect as both routes follow the coastal path with the benefit of a sea breeze.

Like most pilgrims who walk during the summer months, I recommend that you choose to walk in the mornings which leaves free time to rest and relax under the afternoon sun, preferably from a sitting position.

Summertime on the Camino does not disappoint, my friends!
